The Secret Origin Of Westboro Baptist’s Fred Phelps

By Smaktakula
Late August, 1951

"Jesus, Fred--What Does 'I Wish I Could Quit You' Mean, Anyway? Look, We Both Knew This Wouldn't Be Forever, Right? But What We Had, Man--It Was Real. Just Promise Me Something, Fred. Promise Me You Won't Let This Make You Bitter."

The piece of Phelpsicana included below, the Westboro Baptist Church’s earliest slogan, helps to shed light on Phelps’ bizarre devolution:

No Reason Was Given For The Slogan's Change During The Winter Of 1952. Apparently, Phelps Thought "God Hates Fags" Just Sounded Better.

Sometimes I enjoy reading your tags more than the article itself. Is that wrong?

  2. I too like the creative tags, but reading stuff about getting more people to your wordpress blog on wordpress itself they say don’t do it. I say throw caution to the wind and fuck them.

The tags do make for an entertaining bit of meta-reading. The word “Phelpsicana” alone is worth the price of admission.

Whenever I encounter the phrase “Secret Origin” I picture a lurid mid-70s comic book cover. “This is it, True Believers! The Secret Origin of Fred Phelps! Will he save the world — OR DESTROY IT?!? Also in this issue: The Blue Beetle!!!”

  4. I think Fred Phelps is a bastard coated bastard with bastard filling.
