A few years ago I had three selections published in a short-short fiction (55 words and under) competition. I enjoy micro-fiction as a writing exercise, and enjoy reading it when done well, but not too many people take it seriously. You can decide for yourself whether I did, as I’ve included all three stories in glorious Hear-O-Vision.
Canis Diabolus

Dark Days in Derwinshire

Grace and Stephen (inexplicably titled The Favor for publication)
Hey, these weren’t bad at all..(again, I can’t help but notice you have a great/controlled reader’s voice….maybe from all those books on tape you listen to..hhmmm) The deviant in me liked #3 …I actually wanted more of the story to continue….
Thanks a lot, Chicago Blanca. And yeah, all the audiobooks have to be good for SOMETHING, right?
The silly hat will get you every time ~
Don’t I know it. And sadly, all it takes is once.
🙂
A dog in a hat, sour (not sweet) cherries, and a boy growing up? Three stories. Each with a different question and answer. Yes, I’d say you did it.
Thanks a lot. These are quite a bit different from the stuff I usually post here, and it’s gratifying to know that other people enjoyed them as well.
These are great, and yep, would not have the same impact if read instead of listened to. Woohoo for Hear-O-Vision!!
Thanks, Aleja! These pieces are near & dear to my heart, so it’s lovely to know that you enjoyed them.
Somehow I too can envision Lucifer as a Boston Terrier. To me a dog is not a dog unless it weighs at least 50#. But the small terriers are often diabolical. Great pieces, all three of them.
Thanks a lot! My “real dog” threshold probably starts at 40 pounds or so, but I’m with you. Anything smaller is a large rat.
These are all very good shorts, and I enjoyed the Hear-O-Vision. And the changed title on the 3rd one is odd. Is it really a favor if you’re paying for it (even at a discount)?
Interesting (she says, ear to front of CPU at office because the friggin speakers bite)… Things like this make me feel a bit dim, like I don’t “get” it…the point. That there’s some sort of deep intellectual meaning and everyone is on board but me. Then again, I’m always in awe of people who can make a point in 697 words or less.
Please don’t feel dim. There are many times I find myself reading or watching something that everybody just LOVES and I’m like, “Yeah, this is okay. But why are you getting so excited?” and I just scratch my head. But it’s our different tastes that make life fun. For something to have “deep meaning” it only needs to have meaning to you, and it doesn’t have to be the meaning the author intended.
So while they all mean something, I don’t know that there’s anything to “get,” with one possible exception.
SEX! I think I did get that one. The dog thing… um Baskervilles?
I WILL feel dim, I WILL. Stop telling me what to do. hahahaha.kidding.obvs
That third one was very impressive.
The first brought back too many bad memories. But was still quite entertaining.
I think you’d really make a great audio book/bedtime story reader, Smak.
And those are great stories! I find the first two quite funny and charming; the dog being the cuter one, the myopic punk the funnier. But I still liked the third one the best. 😉
What’s not to like about the devil disguised as a Boston Terrier or a plague of cherries falling from the sky?
Great job.
