Haaretz: Secret Israeli Report: U.S. Is Cozying Up To Palestinians

The devil you say!

The classified report claims that in the preparatory discussions for the Israeli-Palestinian proximity talks the Obama administration adopted positions that are closer to Palestinian demands.

If the Israelis think that the current US administration’s pro-Palestinian bias is secret, maybe Moshe’s Eleven aren’t so clever after all.

They’ve Got The Wrong Gadahn Guy!

Treasonous al Qaeda stooge and American washout Adam Gadahn, who performs under the stage name Azzam al-Amriki, was reported captured earlier today.

It’s now being reported that while an important al Qaeda figure was captured, it wasn’t Gadahn.  The actual detainee may have closely resembled the American-born propagandist Gadahn, in which case the captured fighter is most likely a syphilitic frog.

Milton Bradley’s 2010 Tune: It Ain’t Me, Babe

Several days ago Promethean Times opined optimistically on Milton Bradley’s coming year in Seattle.  While it’s still too early for hand-wringing, Bradley’s seeming inability to take any responsibility for the toxic situation in Chicago (and presumably San Diego, Los Angeles and Cleveland before that) is troubling.

Times Online: Turkey Recalls Ambassador After US Genocide Vote

Despite pleas from the Obama Administration, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs has voted to label Turkey’s 1915 pogrom against Armenians as a genocide.

From a strategic standpoint, this is madness.  The Turks have already made clear their feelings on the issue, and to persist in this course risks alienating our closest Muslim ally (Turkey, it should be noted, is a model among predominately Muslim nations for its staunchly secular government).  Moreover, the raising of this issue now risks undermining recent overtures between Turkey and Armenia.

Conversely, Turkey’s argument is that the 1915 massacres did not constitute a genocide, claiming that the death statistics have been exaggerated.  While that is indeed very likely, it is a specious argument.  A genocide is both a deliberate and a systematic elimination of a people.  It is a crime of intent, and the relative size of the body count doesn’t matter.

From Times Online: Muslim Woman Refuses Body Scan

Tags

An unnamed Muslim woman at Manchester Airport in the UK is thought to be the first person to refuse a mandatory body scan.  Rather than submit to the scan, the woman forfeited her plane ticket.

Promethean Times wholeheartedly supports this woman’s brave display of religious conviction, and is pleased that the issue was resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.  The woman didn’t have to abrogate the tenets of her faith, nor Manchester Airport its security.  It’s apparent that the unnamed passenger understands that airline travel is a privilege, and not a right.

FAA: Underage Air Traffic Controllers Not Such A Hot Idea

By Smaktakula

A recent incident involving a young boy directing flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport has created a media-wide sensation.  The affair has resulted in the suspensions of an air traffic controller and his superior, as well as forcing the Federal Aviation Administration to clarify its position on minor-age controllers.  The FAA now maintains that children, no matter how precocious, presentable or well-mannered, do not possess the requisite skills to successfully perform the duties of an air traffic controller.

This is particularly upsetting to Americans under eighteen years old, who currently comprise about a quarter of the US Population.   After wading through a century of aviation journalism, Promethean Times was unable to find even a single example of an underage controller contributing in any way to an airfield catastrophe.  Despite this marked lack of evidence, the FAA is standing by its exclusionary policy.

Contrast the sterling service record of the young controllers with that of their franchise-age counterparts.  Aviation history is replete with dozens of disasters easily avoided if not for the actions of a careless–and adult– air traffic controller.  This disparity is both obvious and unfair, and yet no one talks about it.

Judge Me By My Character, Not My Age

It’s tempting to say, “It’s just the air traffic controllers–my child isn’t an air traffic controller.”  Yes, today it is only the minor-age air traffic controllers.  But can we afford to trust that the rapacious demands of the safety cabal will be satisfied by the sacrifice of a single industry?   How long until those sinister eyes turn upon another vocation they deem unsafe?    Imagine a world which requires that emergency room anesthesiologists be adults.  Where the youngest commercial airline pilots are in their late twenties.  Where Alaskan crab boats do not ring out with the laughing voices of children.  Where firefighters and police officers are old enough to shave.

Sound ridiculous?  It’s closer than you think.

America long-ago ceded dominance of the child-soldier industry to more lightly regulated outfits in Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Latin America.   Today, another industry has shut its doors to America’s children.  Societal prejudices against minors is on the increase, giving rise to barriers which effectively prevent most children from taking dangerous or high stress jobs for as many as eighteen years.  Because of this America’s youth are struggling to compete with their above-eighteen contemporaries.   It is a national tragedy that we should even be discussing these things in the supposedly enlightened 21st Century.  Our children deserve better.

Cretinous pornographer Larry Flynt’s publication, already an unlikely champion of the 1st Amendment, finds itself embroiled in another constitutional issue.

I’m no lawyer–you’ll have to decide for yourselves who’s in the right.

What I do know is that if the pictures weren’t good enough to find their way into Flynt’s protien-plastered gash gallery before the unfortunate woman’s murder, a horrible death won’t make them any sexier.

Jerry Brown plans to run for Governor of California.  I wish him luck.  Fortunately, he can’t be as bad as the similarly named governor of California in the 1970s, who farted around in an economy car, lived in a bachelor pad rather than the Governor’s Mansion, dated Linda Ronstadt (not everything he did was goofy) and asked Californians to lower their expectations.

Anyone but that guy.

Democrats Eager To Prove They’re Every Bit As Dumb As Republicans

By Smaktakula

Like Joe Lieberman’s successful reelection bid in 2006, extreme elements within the Democratic Party are promoting a primary challenger against incumbent Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas.  Lieberman was not sufficiently anti-war for the Moveon.org types, and so cable gazillionaire Ned Lamont received the party’s blessing to represent the Dems in November.  Lamont, who announced a gubernatorial bid a few weeks ago, may have been lacking in a great many necessary qualities, but he was against the war, a quality which seemingly trumped all else.   Lieberman ran as an independent and won.  Despite the party’s disloyalty, the Democrats managed to save the seat in reality, because Lieberman continues to caucus with the party.   In conservative Arkansas, dividing the party in this manner is not such a safe gamble.

In recent years, Republican RINOism (Republican In Name Only) has served to alienate a growing  portion of moderates who might otherwise vote for the GOP.  By continually forcing the Republican Party’s ideology to the right, the party’s appeal has therefore narrowed to the point where it is in danger of becoming what its critics have long claimed it to be: a club for old white guys.  Even after shattering defeats in 2006 and 2008, it is not entirely clear that the Republicans have abandoned this unfortunate form of self-sabotage.

Yes, But He's Against The War

In contrast, the Democrats have become increasingly confident in recent years.  With a cocktail of grass-roots fundamentalism, limousine liberal money and increasing party discipline, the Democrats were seemingly shedding their long-standing (and to no small degree deserved) reputation as the fraternity of do-gooding also-rans.  Of Democratic presidents in the second half of the 20th Century, only the empathetic lip-biter, Bill Clinton served two terms (so hold your horses, LBJ apologists–while the legendarily endowed Texan did serve parts of two terms after Kennedy’s assassination in late 1963, he was only elected President once in 1964, stomping arch-conservative Barry Goldwater).  Jimmy Carter, the Dem’s other surviving ex-president, is a symbol of the benign impotence of the Democratic Party for much of the second half of the 20th Century.

But with the Clinton Bump in the 90’s, the Democratic takeover of the legislature in 2006 and finally, Obama’s masterful victory over John McCain, it appeared that the Democratic Party had found itself at last after so long in the wilderness, consigning the GOP to bumble its way into obsolescence.  The poisonous combination of  arrogance and a leadership out of touch with contemporary America led the Republicans to what promised to be their Waterloo in 2008.  There was an outpouring hand wringing and gnashing of teeth from GOP loyalists in the days following Obama’s victory, while the Democrats made no attempt to contain their glee.   Both sides were heralding the same event: the ugly death of the Republican Party.

This may have been premature.  That the Republican Party has not only survived, but is perhaps ascendant, is creditable less to the GOP than to the Democrats themselves.  Failing to learn from the opposition’s mistakes, the Democratic Party has ceded authority to a fringe minority, one which shows every evidence of being as crass and autocratic as were the Republicans who preceded it.  Despite the very clear will of the people, the Democrats persist in pushing through a big government agenda that Americans fear will fundamentally change the character and nature of the nation, and doom America to generations of economic serfdom.

Unless wiser heads within the party prevail–an outcome by no means certain, 2010 will be a very bad year for the Democrats.
